Personalized Card Seals {A Silhouette Project}

Ever since I added a quick little embellishment to a card I sent a follower awhile back, I started thinking about using my Silhouette SD to make personalized Card Seals for the holidays. While I need to get a little better at gluing the words/ embellishments in a cleaner way, I think the idea of a little personal element to an otherwise standard envelope might just be too much fun!

I haven't decided what I am going to add to my holiday cards yet, but here is the one I did for an LTC follower that got the thinking process started.

A Simple Thank You {Silhouette Project}

About a month ago my sister-in-law and mother-in-law threw me the sweetest baby shower. I knew before we even had the shower how much time and effort they were putting in to make it perfect for me and the soon to be baby, so I needed the perfect simple way to thank them and this is what I came up with.

I love how the Silhouette can cut out simple messages to make such professional looking cards, so I turned to my Silhouette SD and its design studio to find just the right thing.

  

After I found the sweetest phrase, I combined it with the tag options I already had in my gallery to create quick thank you tags. 

 

I quickly glued the messages onto the tags I had cut out in varying scrapbook papers and tied them off with a ribbon. The result looked so 'finished' and I loved it! 

Using the Silhouette to make these tags was so quick and easy. I guess it's the job of the machine working at it's simplest? It got me thinking about how I need to start working ahead for personalized Christmas gift tags, how sweet would that be? Have you used your Silhouette to make any tags or cards recently? Here are a couple of other simple thank you ideas I've used recently too. (I've been blessed with some sweet showers for baby Abbott, so I've gotten to make quite a few fun thank you's this year!)

These were created just using Microsoft word and an inkjet printer, though I did use the Silhouette to cut out one of my favorite scalloped circles too!

Eek! Wreath {A Silhouette Project}

Halloween is just about a month away now, practically right around the corner! It's no surprise that I love to make a  fun wreath to help celebrate the holidays. I still love my wreath from last year for outside, but wanted something new to hang inside the door this year too! Since the wreath was going to be away from 'the elements,' I decided to put my Silhouette SD to work to help create a ribbon and paper wreath.

Here is what I came up with:

 

I won't bore you with the obvious details since I pretty much just combined a myriad of different wreath styles we've all seen before, but I will highlight the different parts of the wreath and give you a quick run down of what I used to create it. 

I grabbed a bunch of supplies to start with, not knowing what I would use and not use. I used the wire ring as the base of the wreath, and began by tying ribbon in varying colors and sizes in knots around about a third of the wire base.

 

 Next,  I used my Silhouette SD to cut out scalloped circles in varying sizes and two different colors. I found a layout I liked and covered the remaining two-thirds of the wire base. I used hot glue to keep the circles in place.

 

I decided I needed some more volume on the paper side of the wreath, so I created some scalloped paper flowers to sort of mimic clouds. Then, I used my Silhouette SD to cut out bats in varying sizes. I created a crease down the center to create death and give them the fling illusion, then glued them in an ascending  fashion 'flying' us the side of the wreath.

 

 As a finishing touch, I added one of my favorite spooky words, eek! (I used this last year in my pumpkin display too.) I picked a fun font from my computer and cut it out from a thick orange cardstock using the Silhouette as well.

And that was is! I tied a big orange bow on the top to hang it with because, come on, who doesn't love a GIANT bow? What do you think?

Pennant Banner {take care of you!}

As most of you know, our dear Patrice here at LTC is expecting and is by far the cutest pregnant thing I've ever seen. Have a look see...

If you are an avid LTC reader I'm sure you have been following along with Patrice and her sweet babies story here and loved all of her precious room decor photos found here.

This week has landed my poor friend on bed rest once again, so my little gift is simple, yet just right for my crafty friend. xoxo my dear Patrice.

{What You'll Need}

Scrapbook Paper,
Flower & Pot,
2 Skewers,
Ribbon

Cut scrapbook paper in diamond shapes and fold over creating triangle {pennant} shapes.

Write message on scrapbook paper.

Adhere paper to skewers with mod podge and ribbon. Put skewers in potted plant.
Voila. A sweet way to let someone know you care.

"to do" list {endless options}

Some of us are approaching the first day of school; so why not jot down those last minute things you want to do before getting back to the grind?

{Materials}

• 11 3/4 x 36 inch frame
• sharpie
• scrapbook paper

{Let's Go to Work}

• Place the scrapbook paper inside the frame behind the glass.

• Tape the scrapbook paper together {I used three 12X 12 pieces}
• Trim off any edges. {approx 1/4 in}
• Use the marker to write down any "to do's" you have.
• Check them off once you have completed them.

PS. The marker comes clean with Windex:)

Wouldn't this be fabulous for multiple lists? I can't wait to start on my Christmas list {stay tuned for that posting}.

Post-It Note Covers

To do.. today, tomorrow, (should have done yesterday..geez). I'm always making lists or leaving myself a little Post-it somewhere around the house or at school. Post-its are so handy, I keep them practically in every nook and cranny. I do notice they are a little drab though..that bland vomit yellow color.

So with a little revamping I came up with a cute cover to protect them and make them a little more stylish!

All you need is some scrapbook paper, thread or ribbon, some mini brads, Post-its (3X3 size) and viola!



Step 1. Cut your card stock/scrapbook paper 8" X 3"



Step 2. Place your Post-it pad on your card stock and peel of the backing and glue it to the card stock to hold it into place. You will want to fold up the edges and score it with your fingers.





Step 3. Cut 2 3/4" circles out of card stock to use for securing the cover together along with use of the ribbon and mini brads.





Step 5. Attach the ribbon by spinning it around the brads creating a figure eight motion between the two.



In no time these covers can be made with hardly any supplies. Obviously they're great for yourself, and you can stash one in your purse, glove compartment, desk drawer. But why stop there..these would make great party favors: Thank You's, teacher gifts, stocking stuffers...endless!

30 Minute Scrapbook Valentine Wreath

I made this little wreath months ago to hang beside my front door, and though it's simple I really love it. The secret is that it was so easy, quick and inexpensive to make.

I started off with this fun piece of scrapbook paper with cursive handwriting all over it. I'm not sure what is says, but it looked sweet and a bit romantic so I grabbed a few pieces, and started cutting them into 1 inch wide strips with my paper cutter.

I got a round floral planter from the dollar store, cut it in half and started wrapping the strips around it. The glue didn't stick to the planter very well, so I wrapped each strip around the planter and used hot glue to secure each strip to the one next to it.

The back looked a little choppy...

but the front was perfect.

I then made a few pearl adorned book page flowers to attach to the front, similar to the Pearl Adorned Paper Blossoms I did months ago. I cut the scrapbook paper into a bunch of circles in various sizes, and did the same thing with a few pages from a book that I use for my book page crafts. I made sure that the circles were very rough so that piling them on top of one another would be more interesting-looking, meaning that some that were more oval than circular, and several had straight edges or points. Once I had a good stack of circles, I grabbed my brown and black stamp pads and inked the edges.

I then stacked a pile from largest to smallest, trimming up a few circles and sliding some of the “petals" out of the center a bit to make them stand out more. I poked a hole through the center of the flower and twisted the different circles around until I liked the arrangement.I then removed the push pin and replaced it with a brad to secure the blossom. I also added a little pearl embellishment to the brad to dress it up a bit.

I wanted to blossom to have a little bit of a 3-dimensional aspect to it, so I took a few of the blossoms, cut a tiny slit from the edge to the center, pulled the two pieces together until they overlapped slightly, and glued them together with a glue stick. This gave that layer of the flower the slightest “cone” look and made the whole blossom pop.

I then layered the book page circles with the scrapbook page circles until I had a fun little blossom. I hot glued a push pin to the back of each blossom and stuck them into my planter wreath.

I attached a short strip of brown twine to the back of the wreath with 2 push pins to hang the wreath from.

Then I was done!

My intention for this wreath was that it would change with the seasons. The planter base gives me the flexibility to change up the blossoms regularly, because anything that you could attach a push pin to becomes the new temporary embellishment. I could also change out the short twine for something longer and hang it from a frame or in front of a mirror.

But I haven't changed it yet, not once. I'm just so in love with those little blossoms, I don't want to take them off! The addition of the book page paper helps them to pop from the background and I just really like them. Hopefully you'll have more imagination for your wreath, but if not, you'll still really love this one!
