I always find it difficult around this time of year to bring the holiday into my house. Don't get me wrong, I am a holiday girl through and through. However, I struggle with the commitment to "red, white and blue," seeing as how they don't match anything else in my decor. Anyway, as I racked my brain this year to come up with something to show my patriotic spirit, I came upon old, classic, glass coke bottles.
I decided that 4 small glass bottles would create just the right bouquet. So, for this project I needed only 5 things: Clear Gorilla Glue, glass coke bottles, small mounting plate of some sort, a rubber band and some gorgeous flowers.
First, I used the Gorilla Glue to adhere the bottles to each other at their bases. It took FOREVER to dry, but worked well in the end. I used the rubber band during this stage as my 'clamp' while I let the bottles set and dry for a couple of hours.
For my mounting plate, I went with a small 2.5 inch mirror. I wanted something inconspicuous and the mirror just reflected the coke bottles and disappeared. Mounting the coke bottles to the plate with glue made the whole centerpiece sturdier and the mirror was perfect for the job. (Plus it was only $.99, so it was even more perfect for the job!)
I should add that the mirror came with bumpers on the bottom, so it is fabulous for putting on dining tables, coffee tables or just about any sensitive surface.
Once the glue dried, I was getting excited. Though I hope to use my little vase throughout the summertime and maybe even beyond, I decided I should throw together a little flag to be just a little more festive for now.
I stopped by my local grocery store and a few bucks later walked out with the perfect white flowers. I added one stem to each vase, plus a little greenery. Though the stems are separated in the different bottles, choosing fuller blooms gave my bouquet a seamless look.
My mind has started to spin with the possibilities since this was so easy. I am seeing a 10 coke bottle long Christmas runner in my future...hmm. I love the classic feel of the bottles and so for now they are screaming summer time in my living room.
Oh, an added bonus, the sunlight catches in the multiple bottles, mirror and water and just bounces off everywhere. I love it!
Hope you enjoyed this simple project. It was so quick and easy, you still have time to make a few 4th party centerpieces too! I'll be linking up to these parties this week, plus the CSI "Red, White and Blue" challenge. Hope you'll stop by and check them out!
Have a happy long weekend!
