Hello all! I’m Erin from Chris, Erin & Jayce, and I am so excited to be contributing at Lemon Tree Creations!!
I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom to this little darling, and also lucky that he is a great napper which allows me to squeeze in projects here and there.
I have always been a relatively creative person, (just ask my mom about the skirt I sewed her when I was 7 or so), but have really kicked it up a notch for the last year or so as I’ve been attempting to decorate our new home.
When we got married almost six years ago, we knew that we would soon be moving to Europe, so we agreed that we would buy nothing new for our first house, since it would just be sitting in storage and probably end up damaged. We then spent 3 years in Scotland, where again, no stuff for the flat since we would be leaving it all behind when we moved back. We bought a house in the summer of 2008, and I was completely overwhelmed with what to do with all of the bare white walls and rooms to fill, because it’s hard to make a house feel “homey” when you have no stuff! I spent plenty of days watching HGTV for inspiration with my little newborn. Last fall when I successfully made these wall hangings, I realized that I could literally take matters into my own hands to get my house the way that I want it to look. And I haven’t looked back since.
I still have many failed attempts at being both crafty and domestic, (like these votive holders as chocolate molds-don’t do it), but the successes that I’ve had in between keep me pressing on.
My husband graciously indulges me by asking no questions as he dodges various objects that are drying in the garage, and ignores the occasional faint smell of spray paint in the house. And in return, I have forgiven him for that time that I received a lot of blog comments on something that I had made for the house, and he said, “Yeah, I saw that. I just didn’t realize people cared about stuff like that.” Bless him. We love each other.
I’m not sure what my “style” is, but I really like neutral colors, patterns, and am still on a bit of a burlap/twine/linen kick. Furthermore, I live in a small town and the nearest Michaels or Hobby Lobby are 35+ minutes away, so I tend to do a lot of thrift store refurbishing, and making the most of supplies found at Wal-Mart or the Dollar Tree.
A few of my favorite projects that I am looking forward to sharing in the upcoming weeks are
this $1 Welcome Sign,
Family Blocks,
and Spray Paint Pattern Bags.
Please stop by on Mondays to see what I’ve found enough time to tackle over the last week, and be sure to say hi!
