Baby Boy Nursery Tour

I want to take you on a tour of my little man's nursery. Although, he will be 2 in July, I do still call his room the nursery. As long as there is a crib in his room, the name will remain. Although, some things have slightly evolved during the past 21 months. Upon entering today, this is what you will see...

To the immediate left, you will find a little chair that formerly sat in a sunday school classroom at the church I grew up in. I painted a number 15 on it in black because that is the day Tyson was born. I found the little blue table at a yard sale for $2 last summer. It holds a couple of our favorite books...

Next up is the crib. This is the way it began with a bumper pad, a mobile, and placed across the corner. I loved it this way. As time went on, the crib is now bare and right up against the wall. I painted a picture frame that we already had white, purchased a blue mat, and blew up a pregnant picture of me that we used to announce we were having a boy...

On the next wall is his name in gigantic letters. My Mom bought the letters for me at Jo-Ann Fabrics. She painted them white and then covered them in the fabrics of my choice, which include stripes, gingham, and polka-dots. It definitely gets your attention when you walk in and Tyson shouldn't have any trouble learning to spell his name...

The glider is the next thing you see. My Dad bought this for cheap at a yard sale. My Mom covered it for me in some super soft baby blue fabric. She also made the pillow with some of the same fabric she used on the giant letters...

My sister had this white shelf she let me use for his room. I love it. It was already white, distressed, and perfect to me. I put small board books on the shelves and a cracker jar full of my husband's old micro machines on the top shelf. I also added black sticker numbers to each shelf for a little more character...

Under that shelf is an old wooden crate/box that is used as a night stand to hold a lamp, one of my favorite photos, a container of small toys, and a little red airplane. My Dad or sister gave me that wooden crate and we used it to hold wood for our fireplace until I began decorating for the nursery and realized it was perfect for the space...

The closet is up next. We thought about leaving the door off at one point and then we never did. I am still considering it. I love a cute, clean, and organized closet. We got little wooden hangers at the Gap Warehouse Outlet for cheap. I love them. We use an old basket for a hamper at the bottom and black storage boxes to hold toys, diapers, and books. Two of them are labeled with Scrabble tiles...

The last thing you will find in his room is the dresser/changing table. It perfectly fits the changing pad and a basket to hold diapers and other essentials. The dresser was bought at Ikea and even has blue & white striped drawer lining. Nobody ever sees it except for me, but it sure makes me smile! Above the dresser are some hooks also bought at Ikea. A little newborn onesie and blue plaid hat hang from those hooks and also make me smile!

So, this is Tyson's room as we know it right now, but things could change drastically in a few months as we welcome another little one into our family. If it is a boy, he will share this tiny room with Tyson. No new nursery to decorate this time around. Not sure how it will all fit and work out, but I know it will. We chose not to find out the sex so any changes will have to take place after the baby comes.

If it is a boy, the giant letters will have to come down and another crib will move in to this room. Yikes.

We kept the brown wall color we had used in our guest room because we wanted the room to be warm and calming. Now it seems so dark and I have dreamed of bead board half-way up the wall since he was born so that is a possibility. I would also love some sheer white curtains on a simple black rod. I have tons of ideas for the future of this room but we'll just have to wait and see...

Oh, and just in case it is a boy, I welcome any suggestions on decorating shared rooms with 2 cribs. Thanks for your help!

Happy Tuesday!

  3. Beautiful nursery... looks like it's straight out of a magazine. I remember wondering what would happen to our nursery when I got pregnant with #2 but in the end everything worked out, as it usually does. Enjoy your "baby"!

  5. Love it!! Looks so cute!!

If your oldest is almost 2, is there a reason to get another crib? It won't be long before he is in a toddler bed or regular bed.

  7. Well, I probably wouldn't have to get another crib but...

Our oldest is actually a 4 year old girl. We are expecting our 3rd. He is just not even close to being ready to be in a big boy bed. He sleeps so well and I don't want any extra stress when #3 comes around! : )

  8. LOL!! Ok!! We had two cribs in one room, my 3 younger ones were born 11 months and 12 months apart, so there was no way I was moving the 11 month old to a bed and same as the 12month old when the time came. We only had a hard time with the older child thinking 'all right, someone else is in here to party with' and would try to keep baby up. I had to tack a blanket to the outside of the youngest's crib so the older baby couldn't see him!!! *Crazy*

  10. I love his room! Those repurposed older items are just so fun, they are such sweet and light touches for a nursery! That little crate and shelf are completely perfect, and I love the hooks above his changing table!! Can't wait to see whichever room gets revamped when the new little one comes along!!
