Pinterest-Inspired Photography

I'm so excited for another round of Pinterest-inspired projects! I love me some Pinterest.

Pinterest is a fabulous source of inspiration for all sorts of things, not just home and DIY projects. When I was hospital-bound for a bit in my pregnancy, I found new photographers through links to their photos on Pinterest, and browsed around for inspiration for once my little one arrived.

Here are a few of my favorite photos found on Pinterest, and my own take on these

When I saw the below photo on Pinterest, I was instantly swooning. What a sweet love there is between a mother and her baby.

Here is my take on this kind of shoot.

Hannah and I spend plenty of time playing like this right now: talking, imitating facial expressions, smiling at each other.

No posing necessary for a photo shoot like this. I think the love for my girl is written all over my face.

There are so many ways to document the age of a baby, and I loved this idea of a monthly set up on the corresponding month of the calendar.

Here is my take.

This is Hannah's October shot, 4 months old.

This picture of the baby and big sister is too sweet. I had to try it with my set of siblings!

Here is my take.

I only got one shot like this, because my son was bouncing around on the bed and Hannah started crying, but I think this one is a keeper.

Documenting a New Arrival {Pinterest Style}

On September 20th my little family grew by 19.5 inches, and we were thrilled!
We were blessed with a beautiful baby boy named Abbott. He is perfect in every single way.

I have always regretted not documenting my daughter Laurelei's growth in an obvious way, and knew that this time around I didn't want to miss out on those monthly shots. Luckily, my baby pinboard on Pinterest came to the rescue in the perfect way...
Someone had pinned the perfect idea found on melange photography, by Mary Schannen. I loved the idea of the blocks and knew that I could create my own fairly easily. After finding a set of blocks at Marshalls for $0.70 I knew it was meant to be!
There were only 5 blocks in the set, so I had to get creative. In order to have all the numbers, I needed two of the blocks just for them. That only left 3 blocks for the word 'months.' I decided just to abbreviate and go with it. It wasn't ideal, but did I mention that it was only $0.70? :) The blocks were already the perfect distressed milky white, so all I had to do was cut out the numbers on my Silhouette machine and use the outline as a stencil.
I let the paint dry, peeled off the Silhouette stencil and voila, instant block set!
I am so in love with my newest little sweetie. I cannot wait to watch him grow over the next 12 months, documenting it along the way. We are over the moon!
You can read more about little Abbott's journey here, on little burlew our family blog.

Happy Wednesday!

Pinterest-Inspired Nursery Projects

Welcome to our first Week of Pinterest!

If you missed our Week of Pinterest post you can see the full details here, but, in a nutshell, the first week of every month will be dedicated entirely to Pinterest!

We all need an excuse to start actually doing some of those things that we are pinning for "one day," right?! Now is the time!

Here is what you can expect the first week of each month

- Monday through Wednesday, Tiffany, Patrice and I will each share a project that is Pinterest-inspired.

- On Thursday YOU will have a chance to show us how Pinterest has inspired you in our Pinterest Linky Party.

(It doesn't have to be a DIY project, it could be a recipe, a game you tried with your kids, a picture, anything so long as it originated from Pinterest!) We'll be pinning our favorites, so don't forget to link up!

- On Friday Jess will be doing a Best of Pinterest Roundup. Love it!

To start off I thought I would show you how Pinterest helped me with a few ideas for decorating my daughter's nursery.

I saw this adorable bookmark and fell in love. My son has spent tons of time reading in our laps and I know that his sister will be the same way, so I wanted to get this saying up in her room.

I played around with several different fonts and layouts, but eventually used something similar to what was used on the bookmark in the first place. The frame was an unusual size, so I used fabric as a mat, and printed the saying on photo paper so that the red pattern from the fabric wouldn't show through. I sewed the bunting from fabric scraps that match Hannah's bedding, and hot glued the bunting to the back of the frame. I love this!

I had cardboard letters to spell out Hannah's name beside her crib, but I couldn't decide how to embellish them until I came upon this picture of a beautifully wrapped package.

I had already used doilies to make Hannah's mobile, so I thought this would be perfect. I cut out the center of some 5 inch doilies, and wrapped them around the letters, securing them with a glue stick. I used Command Strips to stick each letter to the wall, and framed them with an elegant but aged frame that I had purchased from a thrift store and re-sized.

I wanted just a bit more color beside her name, so I decided on some beautiful pom poms. Where better to find instructions than Pinterest?

They are light and lovely. And the pop of color is perfect.

Don't you think?

I'm really looking forward to Thursday!! I can't wait to see what you guys have come up with!!

Friday Finds {Pinterest-My Style}

Tomorrow begins my favorite month of the year!

My Pinterest finds this month will lead up to Halloween each week with a different theme.

Lets start off with what I find to be the best part of decorating this time of year {almost as much as cookies} the good ole....

It amazes me when I see all the different variations that people use. Typically carving was the only option and I was finding myself borrowing templates from Martha. Now with Pinterest, I've discovered such wonderful ideas on the mixer {as I like to call it}.

The Pumpkin {Mixer}

A few of my {personal} favorites.

{LTC Tutorials!}
Aren't these great? Potato stamping on the left and a simple sharpie on the right...genius!

I can't wait to start pulling out my own ideas and using some of the great ones from my boards that I have logged. {Oh the simplicity of Pinterest..I don't have to think of what I want to make...I just look at my boards}

Hope you'll follow me here.
Leave me a comment on how you love to decorate your pumpkins! I'd love some new inspiration!

Happy Friday and Happy October! {well almost;)
